Clown jumped out and died

One of my mom's clownish jumped out of her tank last night through the gap for the filter. Her other clown won't come out of it's cave. She's worried about the live clown now. It hasn't eaten yet today, she can see it swimming and poking it's head out, then hides. Would getting a new clown help the live one? Since in the wild there are always other clowns to fill the spot of a dead one. I know one clown can live alone, but in this case they were together for almost 3 years. Could the live die of a broken heart?..silly I know...

 

Sorry for the cliche answer, but if second clown shows signs of distress/unusual behaviour, i'd check the water for all the basic params first: Salinity, PH, Amonia, Nitrite and Nitrate.
How long since last water change?

 

After my male clown jumped my female clown took about 2 months to behave normally it was sad. My clowns were together for about 3 years as well.

If you do replace the clown you must get a smaller submissive clown. It might very well pull her out of her funk.

Do not worry about her not eating, they can go for quite a while without eating.
