Now the title might seem strange but I asure you it's true. I have two false perc clowns and the smaller of the pair has decided he likes the unsightly mat of cyano on my sand he swims around it alot, nips at it, and kind of rubs or rests on it. What's worse is now the larger one is investigating the purpleyred stuff. I'm not sure if this is healthy behavior or not? I know I need to get rid of the cyano, so far I have added phos-sorb by Api not sure if that's changed much but I also added a macro algae ulva which isn't as good as chaeto but I don't have a fuge for it. I need to at least get some RO water since I know the tap water has the lovely phosphates and my canister filter is responcible for my nitrates which I need to clean it and dump the bio balls.

But serously is my clown crazy or is it's actions reasonable?

clowns are funny fish and do weird things so its not uncommon. The tap water is helping out with your phospahtes and how much are you feeding that could be helping the cyano as well with nitrates. If the algae is purple or crimson its coralline and it will be encursted to rocks or your tank. (some say thats the good stuff) i scrape as much of it off as i can.

Out of curiosity why do scrape off coralline? Do you not like the coloration it adds?

There is absolutely no harm from coralline and a few small benefits and one big benefit. The big benefit is it's pretty. That's the main allure.
