So i had these 2 O.clowns for about 2 months now. they have both started to develop small black dots on parts of their bodies. the female has several small black dots around her left side gill and under her left flipper. the male has a small black dot in the middle of his tail. the female keeps rubbing her body on the sand like she's scratching the left side.

How long has it been hosting the anemone? Sometimes they get black dots due to a sting if the get in to fast.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Do a search for hyper-melanization of clownfish. Usually black spots related to hyper melanization look very different than black spot disease ( black ich)

I searched it and it says it is from a coral sting. But they have never hosted any corals, just my GBTA. Guess I'll just wait till they start acting weird. Thanks for the help.

I know this is an old post but I observed something today that might be relevant if anyone comes to this post looking for answers.

I saw my o. clown pair rubbing their sides on the gravel and I immediately thought of Ich, but when I looked closer I noticed something interesting.

What they are actually doing is stirring up the gravel and then eating the little bits that float up.

So if your clown looks healthy but he/she seems to be rubbing it's body on the substrate, pay close attention to its mouth. If you see it eating little particles then I wouldn't worry one bit, it's just being the pig that clowns are known to be!
