I got a clown tang from a friend a while ago. It's been in quarantine and is still very healthy (swimming well and eating well).

I have a 120 gallon communal reef tank with a blue tang, some clowns, cardinals (pj and banggai), damsels, chromis, a derassa and maxima clam, firefish, some bottom dwellers (brittle star, some kind of scooter i think) , and of course peppermint and cleaner shrimp. This tank has been up and running for a while, and the corals and fish are healthy.

I also have a 300 that has been cycling for approximately 2 months now with live rock from another tank. It has a tomato clown, a large damsel, and some softie corals in it. All of them are ok and eating.

What are your opinions on where I should put my clown tang? I have read that it may not get along with my Blue tang (the clown is considerably larger).

What are your opinions on the clown tang and which tank I should put it in?

from what I've heard and read about clown tangs, they need a lot of swimming room so I'd suggest the 300.

    Don't even consider the 120.

Yeah, what i've heard is that they constantly swim around too. I've never kept them, my friend has a 450 gallon fowlr system though, and i think he has kept a clown tang for some years ago, but as far as i remember, he sold it because of its aggression :S But i dont know, its a very beautiful fish though :)

It's currently 4 inches long. The only reason I considered the 120 is to hopefully get it used to other fish early on. And then would move it into the 300 later on.

Hmmmm... I'm not sure, but i would start to put it in the 300 gallon tank, they are very active small fish even in their young stage, thats what my friend just told me :)

Clown tangs are probably the most high strung of all tangs along with the Sohal. Must be something about the horizontal stripes that makes them a bit wacko. you need at least a 6 foot run for swimming. 8 would be way better.

I had to take my Clown Tang OUT of my 300 because it was too aggressive, lol. It was harassing all of the fish in an already aggressive tank, especially my Blueline Trigger. It was timid and docile, until it put some size on. It's a model citizen now, though. The 22" Queen Trigger sees to that. So, yeah, they can be a little mean, but maybe not yours.

Ok, thanks. I'm acclimating it to go into the 300. Hopefully there is enough space that it wont pick on the tomato clown and damsel already in there. I really hope mine behaves itself and plays well with others.
