clown tang

just added a clown tang to my 210gal reef. have a yellow, who is a little larger. they seem to be getting along.
can i add any other types of tangs, without having a problem? if so, do they have to be of comparable size?

 

All I can say is, you'd better get some pictures of your new fish posted up here before Lunatick sees this thread.
In a 210, you'll have less of a problem than in a smaller tank. You should still have plenty of LR and hiding places for all the fish. The yellow and clown tang may become territorial to new fish wandering into their area of the tank. What other fish do you have in there now?

 

If you going to add another Tang I would do it fast and make sure you add it to the tank at night or when the lights are out. Also I had a clown tang and I put him in my 72 and he was getting beat up a little at first by my powder blue but they settled down. Then after a week the clown started beating the crap out of powder blue, so I would say keep your eye out and also the clown tang is an aggressive eater or at least mine was always ready to eat.
But hey good luck to you it's a pretty looking fish.

Most of all the stuff you read about tangs fighting and all that is just sensitive people who really don't understand the nature of the beast.. I keep and have kept tangs as my major fish for more yrs then I care to recall if I could recall even I have powder blues in with Hippos and sail fin and convict and and some I can't remember now . Also I have never had a Hippos to get to 24 inches LOL more B/S people talk ..

I have actually never had one to over grow its environment and several of my friends .. I read that once as a kid in a Book By Axlerod and spotte and they said that most fish will not out grow their space.. Seems to work for my I had about 7 tangs in a 125 a Powder Blu and sail fin and Hippo and chevron and a Hybrid ? and a black a yellow all where in that system for 5 yrs or so all where like 2 inches when I got them and got to about 4 inches and all just seemed to stay that size. I set up a 750 tank and added them and they actually grew with in a few months I could see the size difference.

They always sorted out their pecking order in my experience with them and all settled in just fine . Stress related ich is a given with any tang though so beware all tangs as well as tanks have it and its not the killer many would have you think either.. Most kill the fish by trying to cure the cold

 

yeah, i was saying in another forum, that i woke this morning to some white spots on the yellow. soaked some food in garlic, and added the marine max. hopefully it goes away.
i read in the thread "fishes to avoid", that one is the clown tang. mine seems to be doing great with the yellow, and seems to be eating good, also. very active fish, which i like. hope he stays healthy, he's such a beauty.

 

also, in the morning, the lateral line on both sides of the body, turns very white. whats that all about?

 

What? A 210g tank with no pics.............bought a new fish...........and no pics to prove it.................this is unacceptable. Im going to a higher authority to get this matter resolved.

 

clown tangs are much like the infamous "sohol" tang , they are among the most agressive tang's If you are to put any thing else in by all means do it fast , of course ive always said ' and had experiance with this had you put something else in along with the clown tang , the yellow would most likely have been to distracted and been unable to center it's attention soley on an individual fish.
you may find moving around the rock work helps as well , this often defuses agression between waring parties.

 

They always fade out coloration at night of is you spook them they will do this.. I have heard several different reasons why. One is to allow for faster or earlier sensesing of a predator at night ? to the fades coloration makes them hard to see by other fish at night ?? Is just one of those thing I never rally cared enough about to try and find the real cause and effect . I just know the yellow all do this..as most tangs will fade and look different at night time..
