I recently got a new small clown tang for an amzing 39 dollars, saw him eat in the store and he had been there for 3 weeks, i am planning on him being the last addition to my tank (hopefully) he is extremely reclusive though, i have seen him twice in the past 3 days, once was five inutes ago and i see him hiding in a small cave, i tried to drop food into the cave so that he will hopefully eat, any advice?

try turning off the flow and then feeding him a little later in the evening when not soe much is going on in the tank. You havent seen him eat anything? and you have had him for 3 days?

Good Luck! They have absolutely HORRID survival rates in captivity. If starvation or ich doesn't get him, and you are one of the lucky few that keeps it succesfully, it will grow up to be HUGE and meaner than heck. One of the few things in this trade that IMO should be left in the ocean.
But good luck anyways! If it works out for you that would be awesome!

he still could be a little stressed still. he may just be acting shy. if he is eating and body looks good i think it might just be nerves because he is still new to the tank. but i dont know a whole alot about clown tangs, but some tangs are shy...wish i could help more. in my tank if i dont see a fish in a week i start to worry or just find their body

Not yet, but when he grows bigger (fifteen inches plus is their listed max size) there might be. I believe clown tangs are one of the faster growing tangs too, but not 100% sure on that one.

Here's a good article about the Acanthurus tangs. He's also on our Fish to be avoided list in the tropical fish forum. They are AMAZING looking fish though!! GL and i would love to see some pics!
