I have always really wanted this trigger but I know how aggressive they get, also the chance of the Jekyll and Hyde personality. I have the opportunity to get a free clown from my friend who is breaking down his tank. It is very small right now, approx 1-1.5 inches. I have a 65 gallon fowlr to house him. Current other tankmates would be a blue spot puffer, skeletor eel, small damsel and platinum clownfish. I know these triggers need a much bigger tank for the long haul but I would not mind housing him for the first few years until he outgrew the 65. Has anybody had a juvenile clown trigger without any of the bad habits they are know for? What do you think? Worth a shot or stay away???

Honestly, from what I have seen, they are one of the more aggressive triggers. I wouldn't trust him with that clown, but everything else seems fine. They are also fairly fast growers so I wouldn't plan on a few years. Maybe a year or two and he is going to look miserable in your tank.

I agree with Daniel. The only fish I'd be concerned about would be the platinum. I don't think it would be worth the risk IMO.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
The puffer and the eel as well, there is not a fish in your current tank that might not fall victim to a Clown Trigger. It may be fine for months, but it is by nature an aggressive fish. The Puffer would not be able to get out of the Triggers quick enough, nor would the eel.

There is just NOT enough space in your tank for the other fish to give the Trigger a wide berth.

The clown trigger will kill anything in that tank, and will knock your rock work around. It needs like a 400 gallon tank.

This is what I figured I would hear. I had a small glimmer of hope somebody would have had a good experience with one, I am going to pass.
    Thanks for the responses

I'll be the other 1% success story "for now". I've had my clown trigger for about a year now and so far he has not picked on my other fish. I basically have the same types of fish you do including a SF eel. If anything one of my clownfish picks on the trigger anytime he gets close to that side of the tank. Mine is starting to get big though so I'll have to trade him out prob with in the next six months. His personality is awesome and I'm going to miss him when he's gone.

I think a Trigger should work in your tank, but not a Clown trigger. Niger triggers a gorgeous and are much more likely to work. Although, it seems like you are nearing your maximum bio-load with what you have in the tank already
