Hi Everyone. Our gold stripe maroons continue laying eggs constantly. Some of the people around the office keep asking if we can some how save the babies. From my understanding, this is a very difficult task.
Here's some of the info I gathered.
    • Know the exact date the eggs were laid so you can time the hatch date. They'll hatch at night and you need to gently syphon them into a bucket and be preapred to start feeding live rotifers.
    • Hope the clowns lay the eggs on a small rock or flower pot so it can be removed with the eggs attached. Hatch them in a small tank and be prepared to feed rotifers.
    • Babies need to be taken care of and fed at least twice daily.
Does anyone else have any info about this? It's probably very difficult to do, but any ideas would be nice to hear.

There's a whole lot more to it. It's not something I've ever attempted, but there are a couple breeders local here who've talked about what it takes to pull this off.

From my understanding, you'll need a series of grow-out tanks to raise the fry. They'll need to be in a dim room in a tank that's painted black. A clear tank will kill the fry when they're startled (which is quite easily) since they'll run right into the tank walls.

Was just doing a bit of reading on this subject last night. Check this article out. Was a great read for me.

edit- credit where it's due. That link goes straight to Pickle's article on breeding clowns over at N-R.
