This is wonderful, your method seems to be getting better every time.

    Congrats.

I'll keep that in mind... Actually probably not to be honest with you.

In the beginning, we thought this was the better way. However, after darkening the room, turning off pumps/filters, etc and coming back to find the eggs hadn't hatched yet got old real quick. Granted, that was mostly due to our inexperience and the unpredictableness of our clowns' routine early on in their breeding careers. Now that we have a much better idea of what to expect and when, why not pull the eggs at lights out on hatch night and save yourself the hassle or rounding them up out of a display tank. Pulling the eggs only seems to be an issue if you pull them too early (like 2 or more days too early) and, once you're experienced with your clowns' cycle, that shouldn't happen unless you have multiple breeding pairs and cross your dates ;).

Well we are fully aware of their cycle, as we have had over 50 hatches to date and they breed like clockwork. We always found that taking the eggs out and putting them in different water was not an effective way, at least for us...We actually have two mated pair but the pair in the coral tank we just let them alone...They lay their eggs on rock and we do not want to disturb that tank...8)

BTW, that red planet has exploded! It's beautiful. Ours has just recently seem to settle in and is now showing signs of possible future growth. It is quickly encrusting the remainder of the plug and is finally getting some of its green hues back. Occassionally, it even has extra super polyp extension like yours seem to always do. =)

Reading through the last posts just goes to show there is more than one way to skin a cat - I personally never had much luck until I started cutting down on the amount of brood stock tank water I was using.

I guess the key is to figure out what works for you.

Oh and Xjay - my last hatch I stuck with the 20% tank water and hatched about 300 fry who are just 2 DPH - but looking great so far. The key for me is setting up that larvae tank a couple days in advance and getting the temps where I want them before the transfer. The eggs don't see any fluxuation at all except for the few seconds that they are out of the water.

    Hey thanks, :)

I am sure you will love it, they are great corals. It's nice to get some satisfaction when you actually see them take off and grow. Once it's fully encrusted watch out.!!!!!!!!!

Wel,l our cat had 6 kittens today. Kinda funny having kittens and fry born within the same 24 hours. Probably doesn't happen to often.lol

Awesome! We went about 50/50 this time around because we dont have the broodstock tank at 1.020 yet. I'll do fresh mixed water for the water changes.

How old are your oldest fry now? Still have your prolific maroons? Is your wall unit filling up nicely?
