That would be fun. My wife has a friend in Fresno, if we ever head up that way, I'll see if we can swing by your place. Get to see a successful operation in person! :)

So far so good. The only thing I'm minorly concerned with is my rot density.I got them late and they are just not quit up to snuff.
How is everything going with yours?

LOL... hard to get good shots of them isn't it! Most people are stunned when they come over and see how small they are and how big a difference 10 days make. Mine are all 10 days apart so I can show them the progression.

It was cool having a hatch last night - I had some friends over with their kids and I could show them every stage from 10 days to 3 months.

You mean those pics aren't good?? Lol. That was with my iPhone zoomed in as far as it will go. Definitely not easy to get good pics. :)

The progression is amazing to watch! Very cool that you have so many different stages all at once. Quite the learning experience for the kids. A lot of people find the phyto and rots cultures interesting as well... Being able to have the beginning of the food chain in your garage is pretty cool.

Errr.. yeah.. I mean those are the best pic I've ever seen. LOL

Yeah, I'm trying to justify the money for a good macro lens - I'd like to get the 100mm canon but that puppy is pricey. Tamron makes a 90mm that is pretty decent. I just think it would be cool to get some Lalani type shots.

Do you have a microscope at home? The kids are always blown away when they get to see rots swimming through the scope. I like watching them do barrel rolls and stuff to.

Shoot, once you sell a few of those snowflakes, it should be pretty easy to justify the cost of just about any lens you want. Consider it investing in your side business - marketing/advertising. My wife and I have decent cameras... We just dont have any quality glass yet. We shoot weddings on the side and rent the really nice lenses when we need to. One of them being a canon 60mm macro (love it for close up detail) - I think the 100mm would be perfect for capturing photos of the tiny fry. I wonder if they make a 100mm macro with a speed of 2.8 - now that would be amazing!

No microscope yet. Would love to get one eventually to be able to check the health of rotifer cultures and to try and diagnose fry deaths. Definitely a ton of stuff can be found in a reef tank that's worth taking a look at under the microscope. I have an old science teacher that takes 100's of super detailed photos of things and then stacks them together into one amazing image. I should see what he can do with rotifers and dead fry.

I was also looking at microscopes that you can record with - you could get some amazing captures.

They do make the Canon 100mm macro in 2.8 - I just don't know if it would be worth it to spend the grand on the L series glass with the IS over the standard.
