What kind of hatch rates are you getting? Have you considered putting a pot in the tank near the skull to see if they don't find it on their own?

I would find a way to suspend that skull in the hatch tank with the eggs pointed down then use a 4" air stone to get a good spread of air over them.

Another breeder recommended the blue plastic cheapo 4" air stone from Walmart - It works great. Half the battle with the air is finding the right stone. Some just suck for spread and others produce bubbles that are too fine and could get trapped between the eggs and kill them.

Now that we finally have some survivors, we might be more willing to experiment with a pot. I did buy a 4" one from Petsmart but it is slightly different than the walmart ones.

I do like the pot idea. Here is a tank I have in the garage with a white stripe maroon female and a yellow stripe male (didn't realize he was a yellow stripe when we bought him). I cut off the bottom, split it in half, and then put a bead of silicone along the bottom. They haven't spawned yet (at least in the new setup), so we're hoping the improved diet is just what they need.

I've used the black 4" ones from Petco and those worked out alright.

I like the half moon pot it looks like your female does as well. If you set the conditions right for them all you can do is feed them well and wait.

I was actually reprimanded by the wife on this purchase lol. Then I reminded her how I worked overtime last Saturday ;).

    LOL woops.

I did notice your sponge filters - I started out using those same ones. I actually jumped up to the ones rated for a 40g tank. They seem to work better for me in helping combat the ammonia levels in the fry tank. They are big but I just shortened the stem on them.

Everything I have read said that it isn't really that worth it for macro since you will want to use a tripod anyways. The L glass adds IS but with a tripod you don't need! You could always rent both of them to try them out. There are a number of places on the net to do it.

Good advise Owen - I have looked at rental rates - and I'll definitely rent both lenses before making the purchase. I like the idea of the IS - I'd also be using the lens for portraits and it's not always handy to have it on a tripod. Now back to breeding clowns!!!
