Kc i have had 3 black and white OC clown fish jump. but i feel the female was the problem and have realized she will be without a mate. i really dont think one will jump on its own.

I lost one of my clowns from jumping out. The new tank will have a glass top.

Glass tops aren't the best, they don't allow for good air exchange at the top and reduce the amount of oxygen in the water available for the fish. Eggcrate or mesh is a much better option.

I have an open top 29g, started as a 10, then to 20T, it's 7months old and never once have we even heard a fish try to jump.

Both clowns (B&W by the way)hang around the bottom to mid level only going near the top when feeding time comes.

The cases where I've read about one jumping seem to be the males that were chased into jumping so with one you should be safe.

My 46 is open top right now as I have the UV sterilizer on it temporarily till I can find a better place to put it. The regular orange clown swims mainly near the top and hasn't jumped (cross fingers) even through all the recent troubles in that tank.

out of curiosity, why are you adding a fish to your refugium? Is there a benefit?

Personally, I wouldn't add fish to the fuge. A refugium is just that. A refuge for organisms. This is where your pods can bread without predation. Adding a clown will add a predator.

EDIT: I had a clown jump in to my overflow one time.

I have seen a whole lot of clowns all exiting a very small car - but thats not related and I only mention it for cheap laughs

Steve, the real question is, when they got out of the car, did they jump? Also and of equal importance, what kind of clowns were they; happy, sad, scary, etc. According to Shimek, that helps to determine whether or not they will jump, especially when exiting a small car.
