I am not either. I have many years experience. Most of my 40+ years, seen ich in fresh and salt, anchorworms, but this is new. Single white spot, then progresses to round white[IMG] rings on tail fin? Tried to post pics, but it didn't load them.[IMG]

This mystery ailment kills in 5 days tops. The other inhabitant in the qt bit the dust last night, even with treatment. Any ideas what kills so quickly? I've never lost a fish to ich, freshwater nor marine.. Strange just absolutely strange. Still looking for answers.

You think the lowest ammonia is my problem? There is nothing below the lowest. It isn't going to get any lower. The fish being sick from the get-go is and was the problem. However now the illness is in the tank. Lfs tested water and said no problems, I tested it myself and have those parameters. Two different kits were used, mine API reef, theirs red sea reef. So it isn't the water parameters. Thinking most likely is brooklynella, without the slime coat. They had a single white spot behind head, not on gills, then round circles that appeared on the tail fins only. After death they were bagged and frozen, no additional slime coating (mucus coating). Looking at adding a UV sterilizer to both qt and reef dt. The only thing is I don't want to wipe out the beneficials for the corals both lps and sps. I have zoas, Kenya trees, pulsing xenias, hammer coral, and anemones.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
So just leave your tank fallow for 6 weeks. From here on out QT or even get two QT's if you feel the need It's not a parameter issue, we all have gotten sick fish it happens. So far you seem to have concluded it was either Brookynella or Crypto so leave the tank fallow. There is no need to start treating everything especially since you have not nailed down a solid ID. Remember the local fish store would like nothing better than you buying more products.
