About a month ago I bought 2 clownfish then 2 weeks later I dwent on a trip for about 5 days when I returned home one of them had died and the clean up crew had eat the body now 2 weeks later my other one is not doing too well it just hangs in the corner of the tank and won't eat nothing I have to offer. I really don't want to lose it too. Any advise? I have a 125 gal tank I did a full line of tests last night eveything was good but nitrates was about 40 to 50 ppm. So I did a water change.

    Nitrates are probably your issue.

Any nitrates past 40 will give fish trouble. How old is your tank? To get nitrates down, you will need more live rock to break down the NO3 naturally. Are you using bio-balls or a filter sock? What's your whole setup?

You need to get your nitrates down. Do another water change. and you have to find out the source of them being so high?

    What size tank is ths?

also JTR if you could list the rest of your params namely:

    pH, ammonia, salinity, temperature.
Age of tank? Other inhabitants? Recent additions/changes?

It's a 125 - not sure if there is a sump or how old the setup is.

Setup is a 125 gal with 2 emporer 400's. I have a Two Little Fishies PhosBan 150, a aqua medic turboflator si. I have 100 pounds of live rock 120 lbs of live sand.

Livestock I have 2 false clowns one of them is the one not doing good. My other one is about 4 years old and is doing great. I have a tomato clown and bubble tip that are paired . I have a naso tang, emporer angle and a PJ cardinal. All other fish are doing fine. I have 2 peppermint shrimp lots of snails and crabs.
I know that two diffrent types of clowns in the same tank isn't a great idea but the fish store I bought them from had them all in the same 100 gal tank. They told me that since my tank is big I could put the tomato clown and bubble tip on one side and the other clownfish on the other which I did and none of my fish fight or anything.

params are PH 8.2 to 8.3 ammonia is 0 salinity is 1.24 temp is 79 and don't go up or down much if any.
I use rodi water with red sea pro coral salt. I use red sea tests.
The only change other than water changes are I bought a hugh rock with tons of Zoas on it. But I bought that after the one clown died. No light changes. I have been doing 15 gal water changes every two days for the last week and a half for a total of 60 gals of water changed. I can't seen to get nitrates down. I have cheato growing great in a hob sump. I don't have any other problems no algee problems.

Also I bought the tank off c-list about 5 months ago. The guy said that he had the tank for over two years. Think I might start changing out 25 gals instead of the 15. I really want to get the nitrates down but changes alone don't seem to be doing much. I also bought a nitrate dip text and it too said high nitrates. Thought about the NPX and changing the reactor over from the PhosBan.

Have you tested your make-up water?
