some people say nitrates are detoxified by saltwater to an extent so i dont think thats your issue ive heard of tanks hitting 80ppm for over 12 months with no issue seriously i think its depression you basicly toke the mate away the clownfish is going through a "depression" period as stupid as it seems but if all other tests check out thats the only visible thing to be an issue pick up some prime and see if that helps that WILL detoxify nitrate trite and ammonia and remove heavy metals and yes it smells very bad it doesent mean the bottles old

I may try the prime I also thought about some stress coat I've had good luck with it in the past. Also my older clown is about double the size of the new clown.

try stress guard and the prime works magic cap for ever 50 gallons id even it out to 3 because of the elevated levels but still 40ppm is acceptable in saltwater i dont know why people are all in a tizzy about your nitrates

    Do you test for PO4?

With most of your fish doing well it could be stress. It's a tough figuring out sometimes. This forum is a great support system, many knowledgeable members here.

    Good luck,
    Rick

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
"Acceptable" rarely cuts it long term for fish or inverts. Since the level is elevated and the solution is easily undertaken, start there and eliminate that possible cause of stress and then begin to adjust for other possible causes. Rather than add chemicals to the tank do some smaller water changes more frequently and perhaps consider some nitrate export measures such as chaeto,if you have not already done so.
The before mentioned products are wonderful but only a band aid for a problem that is easily rectified without their use.
Make sure detritus is not building up some where in the filtration system and cut back on feedings if appropriate.

Good luck with the fish I hope he turns around for you

    :)

this is just my 2 cents :)
I agree that nitrates are a issue (but not having other algae is rare) I would suggest that maybe since the other clown died - that the tomato clown is actually being a bully and could be stressing the small clown. Meaning the small clown does not feel safe swimming around. Just a thought.

Yea I have thought of that but the only time the tomato "bullies" is when something gets near the bubble tip
