Hi, I was curious if instead of getting a mated pair of false perculas if I get two young ones and put them in my tank what is the chance that they will get along well with no nipping or anything or even become mated?

mine get along and they wernt a pair, they are not fully grown and came in with the same shippment, they got about 20 in at the LFS, which were gone in a day(crazy amount of stuff they sell there) but they get along fine, theres a little nip every once in awhile nothing fin ripping though, one has become dominant and taken over my small BTA which I think when it gets bigger they will both go in again and at night they share it on occassion, but if you get them at the same time I dont see an issue...tanks a 12gal. nano-cube...

False Perculas are one of the least aggressive of the clownfish family, and usually tolerate other members of the same species in their tank. As long as they are small it should not be a problem. And the longer they are together the better the chances are that they will become a matted pair.

As with some other marine fish, clownfish are protandrous hermaphrodites (try and say that real fast) meaning they exhibit sex reversal from males to females. So if you end up with 2 males there is a good chance that one will change and become a Female. very Bizarre but fun to watch!

You should be ok. I have one "nemo" that has been with me over 9 yrs and I just introduced a second one and they hit off great. As long as one is smaller than the other or introduced at the same time.

When you buy the pair, it'll help if you get one that's a little bit bigger than the other.

I see Lunatik and I are on the same page - and posting at the same time... LOL

Just get a couple small juveniles about same size.

In a while they will squabble a bit and determine between themselves who is going to wear pants (or skirt) in family...

Don't be alarmed to see a bit of wear and tear on fins while this "dance" is going on.

Usually they come out of it a "mated pair" (unfortunatly in rare cases one may not survive and you will have to get a replacement - :-/)

    Good Luck!
