I agree tank raised is the way to go, there's already enough strain on the wild caught populations and the tank-raised ones are so easy to find and you can get exactly what you want as well since a lot of places will do WYSIWYG. As for coloration a lot of it depends on genetics, if you get a clown with good genes and is healthy you will get great colors. Be aware that they generally are less colorful when they are younger and take time to develop their full colors.

Honestly I've seen more colorful tank raised clowns than wild caught clowns, see the diver's den at LiveAquaria or some of the other high quality breeders online and you'll find some great looking tank-raised clowns.
    Here, for example:

in my opinion i would go with tank bred. They are more adapted to live in captivity. It would also have to do with other fish in the tank. I like to keep a few small gobies, and I wouldn't want anything semi-aggressive in the tank. It would be personal preference but If you plan on getting more than one clown, you should go tank bred. And the whole "wild caught fish disturbing the reef ecosystem is a whole other topic."

    Tank raised 100%

I have heard less than 50% of wild caught clownfish survive. (not sure how factual that is, I just heard it and have no sources to back it up)

Also you are wrong about the clowns hosting. The chances of a tank raised clown hosting your anem are a lot better. Tank raised clowns will host just about anything. They will host any kind of anemone, coral, clam, mag-float etc. Wild caught will only host what they hosted in the ocean.

Tank raised all the way :)

If hosting is the issue....take this into consideration.

My clown has hosted a magfloat glass cleaner, a heater and a freakin rock. No issues there!!
I feed my clown cyclop-eeze. The clowns colors are amazing, really.

Given the choice, I would pick tank raised/bred for any fish any day of the week over wild caught for environmental responsibility reasons alone.

The pro's to tank raised are merely gravy in my eyes...

I think this is the hole story, in my opinion taking things from the wild will become a thing of the past just like collecting live rock has.
