Generally no. Only in large tanks with plenty of room for territories of both, but they may not even pair up. Two mature females will be cause for aggression, and end in the demise of one or more of the clownfish.

I asked this question before and got the same answer. Not unless a large tank or a huge tank. ok. but can we quantify that? To some people a 55gal is a large tank, to some a 500gal is a large tank, know what I mean?

I have 2 pairs in a my 75 at the moment. Like posted in another thread it was a craigslist pick up or they were gonna get flushed. So far I havent seen any hostilities & they all get along great but they are also small 1 1/2in at most.

My meaning of a large tank if over 100 gallons.

The important part or key is the word "mature clowns". If more than 1 clown develops into a female, it's nature of the beast for the strongest and most aggressive female to kill off any competitors.

If you introduce a batch of small immature clownfish to a tank they may form a harem with one male, one female and the rest sexually immature. This does happen and does work for some people. The majority of people end up with aggression issues as the clownfish mature.

Short term you would be ok but long term there will be problems in a small tank.

I keep 30 - 300 clowns in each of my grow outs and I see the aggression constantly as they determine their rankings in the tank. This starts as early as 1 month of age.

I recently broke off 3 pair and placed them in my work tank because someone local to my office wanted to see the different varieties I produced. The tank is a small biocube but the fishh where only 1/2 inch each. Standard O's, Semi Snows and and Premium Snows - So I had a pair of each. I thought because they where small and all from the same hatch that I wouldn't have any issues but it quickly became apparent that in smaller numbers the aggression levels rose. I took one pair home thinking I would relieve some of the stress and it didn't, the aggression just became more focused on the 2 less dominant fish - I had to bring two more back home as well. Once I returned them to their tanks with their siblings they all calmed down.
