i was thinking for my 55g tank all i really want to keep is 1 clown and 2 fire fish. (i still have another 3-4 weeks befor im going to add 1). How should i go about adding them, should the first fish be the clown or the fire fish.
If down the road i wanted to get another clown could I? or would this not be recommended.

that should be fine...probably wouldnt matter what order that they are added..however i would add the firefish together first as these can be a little more skittish then the clowns.

With clowns it is always easiest to add a pair at once. However if you do add another clown down the road (you can) you want to make sure you get the same type of clown and get one that is significanltly smaller then the one you have.

Honestly, I would go the other way around, with two clowns and one firefish. Firefish can be a lot tougher to pair up, and wont tolerate each other if they decide not to. Plus, clowns are way more enjoyable as a pair. Just my two pennies.
But as shackmel stated, it shouldn't be too crucial. Which ever one you pair, add the pair together.

2 clowns will fight unless a mated pair, which would be really cool if you want to keep clowns.Mated pairs are generally more costly so you should make sure youre tank is thoroghly cycled and stable.A couple firefish could be a good start, very hardy, less$,good community fish.

Thanx for the input everyone. Maybe i should get a pair of clowns and a pair of fire fish, but that would break my 1 fish start up rule... also how do i go about getting paired clowns, at my LFS the tank raised clowns are in a tank with like 15-20 of them in there. This is just what i have seen from being there in the past.

you really dont have to get a mated pair, i went to my LFS and bought the 2 clownfish i liked the most also from 15- 20 of them, and once in my tank they got together and are hosting my mag-float. LOL and i also have a firefish but he is by himself!

Yep. Most of the clowns will be juveniles, so they will eventually pair up.
