What is the trick to getting some clowns to host a nem?
Are there any tricks or rules when buying or when in the tank?

I don't think there are any tricks lol. I have heard of people posting pics of nems hosting clowns where your clowns can see it. I'm not sure how well this would work though. Some clowns use different kinds of corals for host or even power heads lol. I think your best bet is to buy a nem/clown at the LFS that are already used to each other. There are reports that this doesn't always work either though.

I have heard of the photo trick also. Im not sure if it actually works or if some clowns just start hosting anyway. That would be an interesting study but it would take a lot of clowns and news to accomplish!! I got my LTA and black and white clown together and watched the interaction between the two for a while before I made the purchase. They hosted within 15 minutes of being placed in my tank. Perhaps I'm lucky, but I thought that was a good way to do it.

Time and patience:) I had clowns that took 6 months to host and some took 30 minutes. It just really depends on the individual clown whether they want to hos it or not. Good luck

I've heard that wild clowns are more susceptible to hosting. Anyone hard of this?

Honestly I don't really deal with wild caught clowns. I would say that you have about the same chances though. Animals in general all have their natural instincts. You can't really breed that out of them lol

Makes sense. OK well that makes me feel a little better. Should I not get a certain type of clown? Or do all clowns have the same chance to host?

I would have to do a little more research on that question before I could honestly answer it correctly. I would say all clowns have the same chance of choosing a host if I was guessing though.
