I added a large red haddon carpet anemone about 5 days ago, it is doing beautiful in the tank with no signs of dying. I have two percula clowns one grade b Picasso and a true perc, they were from the ocean and are pairing up nicely. The clowns are swimming above the anemone approximately getting within 3-4 inches of it but never going into it or anything. Now my 2 cleaner shrimp are addicted to the anemone and wont leave it alone and sit on it all day long and the anemone doesn't eat them, literally sat on the anemones mouth for hours. Now is the reason the clowns wont go towards the anemone a fear issue as in the shrimp have claimed it and they wont go for it, or could it be they just dont like this anemone. I looked up their compatibility and few sites led me in the direction that the perculas will host the haddon carpets.

a few pics that help show....

I have never heard of this before. You may want to give it some more time. It will sometimes take a year before a clown hosts something. They may even host a rock right next to the anemone, clowns are crazy. Just be patient IMO.

yeah thats what i was hoping i was worried the shrimp may have scared them away or something but time will tell. I normally thought if the shrimp walked across the anemone it would be lunch time.

I would have thought the same. Is the shrimp still on it? I've seen shrimp pick arround nems but never hang out with them. You have quite the tank.

Yep Been close to a month now and the shrimps wont leave the anemone alone, Ive even noticed them helping feed it. another curious thing i watched a large glass anemone appear inches in front of the anemone and the carpet grabbed the glass and started to eat it, the shrimp came and helped the carpet eat the large glass anemone. strange relationship

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Very cool!

I love it when people document the unsual things that happen in their tanks.

    Thank you for sharing.
