clowns go from orange to mostly black?

    i've had a pair of false percs for about 2 1/2 months and have always been orange and white and after adding a blue actinic bulb their backs turned black...any idea what's up???

    Hmmm. The black on true percs will cover the body with age but false percs or "ocellaris" clownfish stay vibrant orange white and black. A false or "Ocellaris" will normally have sharp distinct bands of color, while a true perc will fade with age. Sure you didn't end up with a pair of true percs?

    i bought the fish off craigslist so they could very well be true percs, thanks for the info but i'm curious now because the fish aRE less than a yr old

    i just got done reading 3 pages of arguments over true n false percs...i'm postin pics tomorrow...i'm confused

    it would be best to post pics and let us see them. It sounds to me like you have true percs.

    Ive never seen a false perc turn black, just have black outlines.
    Ture pers will however almost fill in the orange with black

    I doubt this is related to the light unless you put TONS of light in the tank. how large a tank, how large is the surface area of the water, and how many watts? In fact, it'd help if you filled out the ASAP form in my sig!
