I have always wanted a BTA but I understand the need for a mature tank. If I could ever get the water to stay in the tank long enough to become mature I will get one :-/. But I jumped the gun with the clown fish. I have two. They are doing quite well and even perform their dominace dance. But Since the new set up they have found the Frogspawn to tempting and have begun hosting in it. Does anyone know if either will be negativly effected by this?

    Thanks
    Jason

I think the normal cronies around here know the answer to this because I have seen them talking about it here, but I can't recall which coral they were talking about.

Some corals do OK with clowns, others get irritated. I can't remember which ones. Sorry. :-/

That can be a problem. They can irritate the Frogspan to the point of not openning up, causing eventual death. I suggest picking up some pulsing xenia, they love to host in that.

Cool. I know Wrassman and Craig were talking about this very thing. Maybe they will step in.

As for me, I am waking up! 4 cups of coffee later, I FEEL JACKED!! [smiley=crazy.gif] [smiley=pirate2.gif] [smiley=tongue.gif]

I have a green wellsophyllia being hosted by my maroon but with no ill effects.  It opens up nice and big every day and the clown hosts mostly at night.  Must be his blankey, eh?

[glow=Maroon, 2, 90%]My maroon killed a green goniopora by hosting in it. I got rid of my pink one before he killed it... [smiley=sick.gif]

I've seen clowns host in just about anything you can think of -- even hair algae. It really just depends on the clown and its personality.

How aggressive is your clown with the frogspawn? Some clowns are batterers, while others are very gentle. My maroon is very gentle with his BTA (I have a very small one for him). I've had Clarkiis that were so aggressive they needed to be locked up for domestic violence every other day or so. [smiley=policeman.gif]

This probably doesn't help much, J, but if the clown doesn't seem to be hurting the frogspawn in the short-term, I wouldn't worry about it. Just start saving your pennies so you can get a BTA soon and solve the problem once and for all.

BTW, maroons like LTAs too. The only caveats are, they get big, they need more light, and they will eat other fish if they get tangled up in the tentacles. Healthy fish are usually able to swim out, though. They aren't as bad as condylactis.
