Clowns - Night fighters?

    Actually As I understand it Clown Fish are hermaphrodites, and all clown fish are born males. There are two types of hermaphrodites and they are Protandry and Protogyny Hermaphrodites of which all are born female.

    But you are correct as far as the one female goes, its a pretty amazing thing because if you take the dominate female out of the tank the dominate male will become the female and the search for a dominate male will start again!

    I would be very wary of keeping more than 2 clownfish; i think it is a possibility if they are all babies to keep them together, but I have read that in most cases the pair (once they figure that out) will gang up on the unpaired clownfish, or if you had another pair, the two pairs would fight. I think it also depends on the species as some are more agressive than others.

    False perculas are supposed to be the least agressive; however this is what I have and my dominant female is MEAN.

    I guess in a nutshell, use caution. because even if you have two that pair up, females have been known to turn on their mate.
