I hate to start another, "my clowns are acting weird," thread, but they are! At least, for them anyway.

My two false percs are hiding behind my LR, and have been doing so for about a week. They take turns popping out to eat, and look totally healthy.

I have a yellow, and a blue regal, tang.... but they don't harass the clowns at all.

I'm just curious what they might be up to. Until recently, they were front and center all the time.

They may be Toronto Guy - time will tell

but its also possible that they have now established a small part of the tank as their territory and are doing the normal hosting thing , just with a rock instead of a live nem or coral

Long ago my two perc's went missing.. I assumed they had died.
After lifting some rock out of the tank to see if I could get there dead bodies out.. there they were hosting a clump of hair algae at the back of the tank!.
these guys will host anything that feels good.

How are they acting funny aside from hiding? Has the male (smaller of the two) been beaten up lately? Sometimes the male will act so weird you think he’s going into anaphylactic shock – this is the point when he gives up and sex is determined and the female gets larger. After the female is knocked up (industry term, trust me) the two will begin to “tend house” and maintain one area where the eggs are to be laid – this is the point where you may be right now if they are mating.

The eggs mature in a week. But you will need to find the eggs to watch them – they will be orange and after a week turn a clear/silver. When you can see the eye they will hatch that night and you will need to pull the little new born’s out to a separate tank or they will become food. There are plenty of sites on the net dedicated to raising these little guys – here’s a good site: Breed Clownfish | Saltwater Fish Breeding
