I don't know much about true/false perculas. I based my opinion by some of the factors in the link I put up. If it were in a tank full of false perculas, I'd guess almost positive false. There is a chance that a true was accidentally sent or, a true accidentally mixed in by the lfs. If I were raising false percs, I probably would have started with a pair of false. Not really much chance of getting a true mixed in. Not really sure how the operation really works but, that's how I would do it.

lol, how can it be a poll? it is not opinion related. it is either one or the other. Based on the characteristics seen in the picture this is a false percula.

On the contrary. It's very opinion related. I say false, that's my opinion. Some have said true, that's their opinion. Some opinions may be stronger than others;).

ok i guess i just do not to see the evidence that would suggest otherwise. Would someone that thinks that this is a true percula care to support their so-called "opinion"? lol i am only kidding

That's not a bad request! What makes you all think that it is one or the other? Why false? Why true?

Well, after looking at about a zillion clown fish photos, I've pretty much decided he's a false percula. I can't count the spines in his dorsal fin, but he has very thin black lines surrounding his white bands.

The only TRUE difference between Occellaris and Percula is, the Percula is Western Pacific, and the Occellaris is Eastern Pacific. Every other thing out there overlaps. If the fish came from a tank full of them, more then likely it came from a hatchery, so theres no telling what it is because the parents could have been a mix of both. Just because it was darker then the rest of them, doesnt mean anything. In group of hatched eggs from the same parents, you can get your standard clown, onyx clown, picasso clown. The onyx and picasso are genetic deformities that can happen in any egg clutch. The more the fish were inbred, the more deformities you can get.
