    also geek you are wrong, they are two entirely different species, Amphiprion percula vs Amphiprion ocellaris, although yes they are from a common relative, however mutations occured from a common ancestor that lead to two different species, similar to that of us and apes.

    Definitely a false perc. 99% of True perculas have very thick black bands, sometimes even connecting from one to the other, while the false percs have very thin. You can go by the "counting the doral spines" method, but often it is much quicker and easier just to examine the black bands.

    I am having the EXACT same problem. (I found that link earlier while trying to find the answer to this question) I have a larger darker female with a lot of black on her fins and a smaller lighter male with only a small band of black on his (both fish have thin black outlines on thier white stripes) and they don't seem to be bonding at all. I'm wondering if they are different species, and IF SO, will they pair up and mate anyway, or not?
