I believe my clown is trying to host in my zoas, he went over to them and layed over on his side and rubbed them, they of course closed up, he tried a few times, what would be good for them to host in, in my 12 gallon nano-cube. BTA? or like a toadstool leather?, I have some ricordia coming shortly

Frilly mushrooms, I have a rock in my frag tank with about 10 good sized mushrooms one it and I have 2 False Ocellaris clowns hosting them. I also have GBM Clown hosting in my forgspawn.

Possibly Torch, Frogspawn or Hammer coral, Anthelia and Xenia as my clown is calling home at the present time. My clown has also used my 8"Squamosa Tridacna Clam as home which my clam did not have a problem with!

Those are all good suggestions, I have a HUGE (literally dinner plate sized) Ricordia Mushroom that my tomato just adores. The only thing is, the clowns will make up their own minds. You could toss all of those different things in there and it still might want to get jiggy with your zoas. Just keep that in mind.

looks like he made him self right at home there, he gave up when the zoas closed, funny though, Im glad hes trying to host at least so if I get something they like they will go in it, I'm sure the other would follow eventually since they always stick right by each other

Clowns will host in anything , Its their instincts to do this. The rubbing up and along and on the soon to be new host is also normal. Their instincts at work again.. A clown never just dives into a host of they would be stung and maybe eaten.. They have to slowly assume the slime scent ?? what ever its called from their new host their new host thinks its just another part of me like a clone anemone . take a anemone and cut it into quarters to make 4 little anemones then they will and can set side by side and never react to each other unlike two non cloned animals. Thats why your zoo's closed up.. give the fish a few days it the coral will not even know its there..

I have taken clowns from a established host anemone , Then rub them clean with a freshwater wipe off and it would not return to the host for several days until it could get reacquainted with the anemone the mate was fine .. I did this several times with different types of clowns and even some Domino's Damsels .

cool, thanks for the info, I'll have to see if they keep it up, I read that theyd host in many different things, but never though about them trying to get in the zoas
