I've noticed a few black spots on my two false perculas for sometime now, but when I looked at them last night they seemed to have more spots on them. They don't seemed bothered by these spots, as the eat like crazy and they are very energetic. The spots are bigger than what I've seen in the past with ich. I wonder if it could be stings of some sort but I don't know if any of my stock is capable of stinging them. My stock consist of a green ricordea, a few mushrooms, dragon eye zoas, a bubble tip nem, and a hitch hiking fire nem ( very small ). So let's see if we can diagnose the problem for these fish!!!!!!!!

I'm battling ich currently, and since I have been doing so, I've noticed black spots on my false perculas as well. I haven't been too worried about it because they're clowns... And I've read a couple posts saying that hosting in zoos or xenia or gsp can cause this and its harmless. My clowns do get a little close to the xenia I have growing up my back wall but I wouldn't say that they host it.

Are they big splotches or are they small like ich? If small, it could easily be black ich. Clownfish and tangs seem to be more susceptible to it than other species.

In the past when I've dealt with ich the white spots have been about the size of pin heads, these black spots seem to be about three to four times the size you would normally see with typical white ich.

After my pair began using a patch of GSP as host they developed black spots. They aren't effected so I don't worry about them.

If your clowns host in a coral or a non-natural anemone, this is normal for them.

They are hosting in the bubble tip nem now but I have to say that I've never seen the act even remotely interested in hosting in any of the corals.
