What's everyones input on having clownfish in your tank without the anemones there with them. Bad/Good? Will be okay for a little while.

Clownfish don't need an anemone and vice versa so they will be just fine :)

Most tank raised clowns (90% of what's available) have never even seen an anemone. They will host various corals, caves, PH's and other equipment as readily as an anemone when they're in captivity.

Yup my new tank raised clown has hosted my magfloat. He gets very upset when I use it, but as soon as I put it back, he is happy. Clowns are goofy little fish, and will be happy with almost anything they can host, heaters, power heads, rocks, etc.

Mine is content without an anemone and he won't get one either way. He hosted my magfloat for a while, now hosting the sand. Maybe he will host the zoas but who knows.

How can you tell if they are hosting?

It just where they call home. Its where they hang out when chilling, and go at lights out, or if scared.

They're silly. Lights on they are always on the side with the powerhead and when lights off they go on opposite side and sleep very close to the sand.

Mine hosts a rock. It hosted the overflow for awhile.

My big tomato doesn't host anything. She hangs out in the back and bullies the little one around, so I am assuming the big one is the female. The little guy hosts the back wall. He just goes up and down it all day long, he wiggles and rubs his body against it. It's pretty funny
