Went to my LPS to get saltwater. Been going to the same place to get my water for almost 6 months now. Brought in my jugs and told them fill it with saltwater. Came home, did my usual thing, add in the water then check my parameters. And what do you know. The stupid idiot fill it with fresh water.. my salinity is way way down. Luckily i had some salt mix for emergencys such as these. I called in and complain and they say sorry. Thanks ******..

Good thing you noticed, hopefully nothing was harmed. That's one of the reasons I make my own I like to know exactly what is going in my tank not to mention the hassle toting water around and paying a premium for it.

That's why if you don't mix it yourself, always taste it to make sure the salinity is at the correct levels. A refractometer works great too as an alternative.

+1 on above.. the easiest way is to stick your finger in it and have a lick ;)
It is their fault but our responsibility to double check what goes in our tanks.. which you did eventually :)

    Just curious why buy saltwater?
It is not for topoffs is it?

    Water changes.

I did this yesterday when I was doing a water change in my mantis tank. I don't bother to check the salinity, I trust my LFS they have never failed me, but I taste it to make sure they gave me salt and not fresh. Well when I tasted it my girlfriend gave me the weirdest look like it was gross or something. It's RO/DI water with salt, the fish haven't swam in it yet or anything

I personally wouldn't taste it, who knows what's in there. Get a refractometer and take 6 seconds longer to test it. ;D

Good thing you tested for real.
I usually taste it as well because my FW top up bottles are the same as the SW bottles and sometime the housekeeper mixes them up... I don't have a refractometer as yet but soon to come;D

It better just be RO/DI water and salt, as thats what I am paying for.
