Cold Remedy Anyone?

We're both stuck at home with horrible cold symptoms (sore throat, stuffy nose, congestion, head ache, etc.) Does anyone recommend a certain medicine or have any at home remedies we can try out?

 

Take a super hot bath drink a half pint of whisky go to bed and sweat it out

 

Despite what the advertisers would have you believe, unfortunately there's no way to change the timeframe of the common cold. The best you can do is take some meds to alleviate the symptoms and some acetaminophen to bring the fever down if you have one--but being a viral sickness, you have to let it run its course. Drink warm liquids, get plenty of rest, and treat yourself well. Antibiotics are sometimes prescribed to prevent other sickness while your immune system is down, but in the big picture, this probably contributes more to the problem than it helps--as antibiotics cause bacteria to mutate into even nastier, more drug resistant strains.

over here I was introduced to a home remedy that does seem to help

2 cans of cola -
ginger cut into small peices

put in pan, heat and simmer until the 2 cans of cola have about the same volume as a single can has

drink whilst its as hot as you can tolerate
its very strong and a little unpleasant
but IME it does help with the worst of the symptoms

i down a clove of garlic as soon as i feel it comming on, and you can ask anyone i am never sick! and if i am it lasts a day maybe two tops! can't remember the last time i've had something

 

honestly, chicken soup is trully beneficial.....and then id always go with some tylenol for fever....and for the sore throat mix some turmeric with salt, hot water and gargle. and i would also do some frag buying online to aid in the recovery!

 

Jack, Honey and minced Ginger heated in the microwave works well for me. Not to far off of Steve's remedy but has a little Kick.

 

Same with me, Stuck in all day with a horrible cold. Im just taking some paracetamal.

 

Haha if only that cured everything. We'll have to give some of those remedies a try, not sure if either of us can stomach a clove of garlic though.
