Has anyone tried running a cold water marine tank. eg) Pacific North West. I have a spare 55 gal with a chiller and as I live close enough to the ocean (Vancouver) and scuba dive I thought it would be cool to try out something different. Any thoughts, comments, experts? Other than the chiller would they require any particular type of lighting (sponges, feather dusters, small fish such as sculpin, gobies, etc, crabs, scallops, sea pens, starfish, etc.) There is a lot of loose rock down there so I'm guessing that could be used a live rock? I would collect the specimens myself.

I did a cold water tank when I live in Port Angeles, WA...it's hard to keep a tank cold enough for many of the things you'll find in the Pac NW...we found things that could survive in tide pools did best...animals from deeper waters seemed to be more delicate...lighting is not important as almost all species up there are non-photosynthetic...the other issue is the water is very rich in nutrients in that part of the ocean so most things need to be fed heavily as compared to a standard reef tank.
