Im a mech and material science engineering double. I used to think that all I would get to do was number crunching, and then I found out that the people that do numbers essentially choose to. I asked for a different position in my job at work and they started letting me do more hands on design work. It all depends on the company and your skills. I think engineering is a fascinating field. If you want to, switch to an engineering manager later in your career.

I'm not too worried about life financially, with either option. Because, I'm very interested in the National Guard (which I know my mother would frown upon), but as GoToSleep said on this forum, "It's a good part time job." It puts more money and tons of state/military benefits on the table. I wanted my career to be flying for the military, but because of eyesight issues, I can't do that. I know for a fact that that is still what I'd love to do. But I also know that I 100% can't. That's one reason why I want to join the NG, if I can't have a career military I can at least have something part time as a mechanic or a member of an air crew or something.

I just know that college is going to flat out suck if I continue with Engineering, even though after college will be financially awesome. But then, I could have college be awesome, and then after college be awesome, just not financially.

I like my plan to wait it out and get all of my general education courses out of the way now. I knew I'd consider transferring after two years ever since I knew Auburn was going to be freakishly expensive. So I'll give myself two years to figure it out and get my ducks in a row or whatever. :)

firstly, dont even think about mechanical engineering, i got a degree in england came here and havent found a job in that field, maybe its to do with the economy.
had a job as a mechanic for awhile but that was to much and having to put up with people that didnt care and were low class.

all i can say is go do something in the medical field, theres always a demand where ever you go in the world, job security, well paid etc
i sure have been thinking about going back to school and do something in that field.

The economy is making it tough even for those of us that have degrees and tons of experience to find new careers.

I think I am on the 1 year hiatus form working plan. I hope not, but its been the better part of this year already.

Oh well, I plan on getting a lot of snowmobiling in this winter, and reef / house projects done.

I'm majoring in CIS...Computer Information Systems. I'm very creative so this is a perfect major for me, fast paced, always changing and challenging. Plus it opens those corporate doors for you :) Everyone in my major wants to retire by 35, i don't know why lol

I believe education should be a life long thing. I will stay in school as long as i can. I also want to study physics, biology, chemistry, mechanical engineering etc. + i love college girls ;D

Do what you love, you will be happy. When you wake up in the morning you will have a feeling like you cant wait for what the day has to offer. No point in gong into a major that you are not interested in to make money. Money does not make you happy, trust me.

You parents will always want you to conform to their idea of what your life should be, or what they think will make you happy. There is no way for them to experience what you have experienced. Take a philosophy and ethics class, then you will know exactly what you want to major in.

I too believe that education should be lifelong. Be it through school or being open minded in your experiences, one should never stop learning.

If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life.

Money does NOT make you happy--this is true.

Perhaps rather than the philosophy and ethics class as one's barometer on what to do--consider a Career Inventory. Of course, this is recommended for those who really don't have a concrete idea of where they belong vocationally. It took me many years and jobs before I learned through this simple "test" what I love.

This is why, despite working physically harder and longer hours, and perhaps making a bit less money--I'm the happiest I've ever been. That certainly brings me back to agreeing with infamous when he says "money won't make you happy." You have to love what you do.

Just to add to the cache of sayings you have going, Sparky...

Never let school interfere with your education. :)
