Well I decided that I MIGHT set up a 14g tank in my room.
The only thing keeping me from doing it is the following.

    Christmas break
    Summer break.
( and any other break for that matter)

Who is going to take care of them during the time I'm away?

    How do you guys manage?

You could hook then up with an ATO, but I'm guessing when they come around to check the dorms they're gonna notice and say something about the tank being there, at least for christmas break and other short breaks.

Summer break is the bigger problem, IMO. You'd likely have to move it out, as they usually assign you to a different dorm in a different building (depending on the size of the college) every year.

I've done the college thing and am actally going back for more. I would HIGHLY recommend you not get a saltwater tank in your dorm. Not a good idea at all since you will be gone for breaks and stuff. You should spend your time on school and college life. Just my opinion. Good luck with school.

I know how much you want a tank there, but my opinion is that it wouldn't be the best thing. It will be hard to take care of, "friends" might mess with it., breaks will be hard, and during the summer when you move out you'll have to pack it all up and move it again....sorry ;( Just my opinion though

What about a small 5g biocube? Self contained; take it with you during the summer!

i agree with the other posters. i wouldn't set up a tank in the dorm. i seem to remember some guys emptying a fire extinguisher in my room back in the dorm days. i doubt that would have been good for the fish. Enjoy college and set up your tank after you are done and established somewhere.

I'm in school now..and I wouldn't advise having a saltwater tank at school. I'm not even in a dorm. I've been there, done that. I changed mine over to freshwater because it just got to be too much. Even a little tank takes up time/money. Too much to worry about. You're going to have MUCH more important things you need to take care of. And more important things to spend money on! Not trying to be a downer or anything...I just wouldn't recommend it.

Alright, I guess I'll be the one to go against everybody else's posts. I'm in college now, not the dorms though, and have a 29gal tank that is doing great. However I did live in the dorms for two years and for one of those I had a brackish 10gal in my room and the next year I converted it to full salt. At times it was a pain but I also had great roommates that never bothered it and had a campus job so I wasn't home much on breaks. During the summer I moved it back home with me but I only lived less than 2 hours away. So I'm not saying you shouldn't do it and I'm not saying you should, just that it can be done. Now I live off campus almost all year round even through the summer and have plenty of space and time for my tank.
