Im gonna make some LR today with the DIY methods on here I've been reading and just have a quick question.
Would it be possible / or harmful to add purple food coloring to the cement to get that figi rock color tone?

Why not just wait till the coraline algae grows naturally. It takes time but with proper calcium and ALk it will grow. When it does grow on the glass just scrape it off so it flows and that helps it to grow faster on the LR. Of course you need quality LR that has some coraline algae already on it to at least seed other base rock.
