    Hey everybody,

I'm thinking about changing my sand so I'm looking for photos of saltwater tanks with a dark colored sand in them. I thought it would probably look cool and really make the fish stand out. Send me pics if you have them please.:Halloween43:

black sand would look really cool.i was talked out of using black sand cause many people said the corals benefitted from the light reflecting off the white sand back onto the corals undersides.idk if its true but i went with white just in case.

Ummm, seems to me black sand would be like a black car. Much harder to keep looking clean...:Halloween44:

Misc debris would show up much more, not to mention harlequin poop which appears as small white pellets...

not sure what other stuff might look same. :confused1

They told you correctly . I have seen a few even go bare bottom and place white star board on the bottom of the tanks LOL Thats a little more trouble then I want to mess with.. Also unless its natural colored sand then you run the risk of the dye effecting the water if it bleeds out of the rock.

Im using the gray coast calcite in a 50g, I dont know about the whole reflecting issues cause everything is on eggcrate in that tank. Calcite has a high magnesium content( higher then aragonite) so it helps stablize you magnesium.

I have the black and white mixed live sand. I used to have the regular color sand and switched, I think with the salt and pepper look it adds a little intrest. In my 10 gallon I have black sand, I like it but I have to clean it alot, because it does get dirty quick.
