    Hi,

I bought a Colt Coral almost 2 weeks a ago and basically, it's closed up most of the time and looks like a cauliflower! My Ammonia/Nitrites/Nitrates are all at 0, my calcium is 400 and alkalinity is 9. I tried more current, less current. Higher in the tank, a little bit lower, it's almost always shrivelled up. Sometimes it opens up briefly but closes up pretty quickly...
    I have a 75 gallons tank with 4xT5 (54 Watts each).

Any idea??? I am getting discouraged! :-[

    Thanks!

So it's normal for a coral like that to be shriveled up for a few weeks?

My colt stayed closed for almost a month.

It happens. Just keep your parems nice and it will come out when ready.

With the short period of time that you had the Colt and the numerous changes that you made to try and get the coral to open up, each time you do this causes the coral to have to react and acclimate itself to the changing conditions. It is best, as said above, to let it be, in the words of the Beatles(haha) and it will eventually expand to the beautiful coral that it is.

I agree. Mine took about 3 weeks. It was real skiddish even after that period. If something touched it, BAM, closed up and shriveled. After awhile though it got more resilient. Now if I am cleaning the glass and brush it, it closes some polyps but opens back up in a minute or so. It will be fine.

Ok... Thank you all! It reassures me a little!

Now, it is in the higher portion of the tank with medium current on it... Does that seem fine for that kind of coral? (From what I read in books, it looks like it but I'd like to get your opinions)

    Thanks!

Mine likes in on the bottom of my 55 gal. Just enough flow to get a
    gentle swaying motion.

Mine is happy on the bottom in the corner (right side). It seems to like indirect flow to keep all the branches up. It also has perked up big time after switching from PC lighting to T5s. Lots of growth in the 2 months I've had the new lights and the polyps are very full and fuzzy for lack of a better term.

I think mine stayed closed up for a few days after I bought it. I remeber being worried about it. It does close all of its polyps for a few minutes when my magnet cleaner touches it.
