I have a 85 hex and I have been reading around about refugiums and seen a lot of designs, but I havent seen any cominations with diff dept for a fuge by itself with seahorses and corals together and then a area for a mantis. I plan on making an acrylic 4'L x 2'W x 16"H. Does this sound like overkill? I would like to have all this in one to keep from having to get other tanks and pumps etc..

Sounds like a cool idea. The only thing I could see with a fuge that size is are your plants going to get enough nutrients from your DT and such. You might have to add stuff for you plants in the fuge.. which kind of defeats the purpose i guess.

EDIT: I think I mistook what you were asking.. You could put it all in one tank with overflows going from one to the next, just make sure you don't have any jumpers going down to the mantis tank.

i have seen seahorse is the fug. but not to many corals, you have to go with what works with seahorse lack of flow. i can be done. i wouldnt keep any other strickty copapod eaters in the DT. Its a kool idea, but would need to keep the whole tank at perfect params to keep the seahorse.

He said he was going to have different chambers for each.

What kind of mantis do you plan on keeping?

I like the way most spearer mantis look but the peacock is hard to pass up with how they look and how they are. Something that can live in a area of 1'w x 2'L x 16"h. I plan on having them seperated with snails in fuge and seahorses in coral and mantis all alone. I hope it would not get mad and go nuts trying to get at the snails. I will have him last in the flow so I can have a lip on the overflow edge into his area so he wont be able to climb over it. I plan on using at least 3/8" thick acrylic for strength and a sturdy structure. I do plan on putting a 2" lip on all the walls and through the center for support and a barracade. I'm wondering if I have a routered hole for the water to flow through that maybe he might be able to break it then.
