Robman never implied that if anything on this list was missing that a newbies tank would crash.

It is a general guidline to show people a general understanding of all elements of reef aquaria from all levels. Novice-to-Newbie.
It does not say anywhere a newbie has to go purchase all these items before they can keep a reef tank. Its a list that the community of 3reef put together so people would know whats most essential. To say a newbie doesnt need "this crap" is a load of crap on your end. People are newbies, guy not 1st graders! There is nothing wrong with letting them know how auto top of units, or protein skimmers, or kalk water are things that they have used to keep there tank successful. They dont have to buy theses things if they feel its to advanced for them but to know what it is so they can research it and learn so that they may imply these thing into there system later is better than leving it of the list.

And all these you left in black print is "your opinion". When you say somthing so vague as "Carbon can cause problems" Why dont you take the time to explian how carbon can cause problems? Tell me why a protein skimmer is not necessary? even if they arent prove to me that there more of negative than they are a benificiary. Water changes arent necessary either if you want to get "technical" but Im not going to tell a newbie its best to leave the old water in his tank forever, unless I have a damn good reason why! RO water Isnt necessary but explian to me how its "not" better than using tap?
