Tim, call your LFS and see if he will take them back. The only problem with that is he'll give you wholesale value for them, and may not even want to take them.

he is real cheap about stuff like that i mean just for an example i hade gotten a fish from him for about 50 dollars and it didnt get along with the other ones so i called to see if i could trade it in on another fish of equal value and he said he might be able to give me 10 bucks for it, another time he sold me a hydrometer that he himself said was calibrated by him and my fish about 4 clowns 16 dollars a piece died almost instantly because the salt level which i thought was at .23 was at like .35 and he told me he might be able togive me credit for 2 small ones, he is very cheap and just out for a buck ,ive gotten bad info form him just so he could make a sale, plus i asked him about the lights after i found out they were wrong and he said he has the newer model now so there was nothing he could do,i dont mean to ramble but i love saltwater and all of its creatures and learning but ive gotten shafted by this guy and now im stuck, im really glad i found you guys on here to talk to but i dont know what to do fro here, thanks for listening.

I know what you mean about the money thing with the LFS. I got a sea hare fropm my LFS to deal with hair algae and now it's starting to starve because almost all of the algae's gone. I paid $45 for it and he showed me the wholesale in his Sunpet book and it is only worth $10. I have to take it back regardless even though I'm getting cheated. You might want to call another LFS, if you have one, and see if they will give you a better deal.

In't not "worth" $10 dollars because that is the wholesale price, its worth what ever the LFS sells it for. Are you demanding this LFS sell everything to you at their cost? What about they're dead? What about they're bills and overhead? Is the LFS just in it for charity, I mean, do they pay they're own bills with their own money just so that people can come and buy their fish at cost? Do they work for free? Wholesale price lists aren't meant for public consumption for this very reason, hobbyists don't know what to do with the numbers! You'd probably have a heart attack if you saw what I paid, but then again, you'd have no idea of my TRUE landed cost.

On another note, he's all ready made the cash off you, by him only giving you what his price is from the wholesaler, he's going to reap the same profit twice. Actually, he's going to make more off the second sale of the animal due to other hidden costs from the wholesaler not being tagged on. Most LFS I've dealt with give you 1/2 of the retail price (what you paid) for fish, corals and rock. Find a better LFS, this one is taking you for a ride. PS, what his name, I'm sure Sunpet would be stoked to hear that LFS is showing their price list around :)

Calm down Gresh. My buddy at the LFS is not the manager and therefore has no choice on how much he should give me. The manager tells him what to do and if he doesn't do it he's gone. That was just an example of one of my LFS's. The other LFS will trade me for exactly what I paid for it. He trusts me plus he owns the store. I get freebies all the time. I was just telling tim that he would be better off getting cheated and getting rid of the carpet than letting it die in his tank. A carpet anemone is a gorgeous animal and I hate to know one is dead. I know when I'm getting cheated gresham. I'm not taking the sea hare to the LFS I talked about above it will go to the other one and I will get full retail price. Tim I would suggest to you to find another LFS. You must own a store Gresham.

    Nope, I'm a wholesaler :)

I didn't mean to come off pissed off, or hijack any thread.  We live with retail pricing across the board, most of us don't know what the dealers pay for our cars, etc, so when I see some one post about the difference in retail/wholesale equalling a cheat, it irks me a bit.  The stores bottom line may require him to have such high prices, or he's just a stinking money grubber, but how do you know?   FWIW, SunPets is gouging the LFS :)  $10 wholesale?  $12 retail out here, and they come from out a FLA distibuter :) . Some wher in my post I meant to basicly say most LFS out here pay 1/2 or more on retail price for returns/trades *IF* it's an animal the can resell or isn't too large. Getting a full return is unheard of out here, your stocked, really. How big is this sea hare anyways, and does it poop gold? $45 bucks it better.

I agree on returning it and taking a hit.  Better off it live, and you take it as a learning expierence.  The store I used to work at years ago closed their fishroom, but I stayed on as a stocker.  We had many of our old customers come in after that trying to get rid of their fish and corals for some reason or another.  The other store in town wasn't giving them anything really for the stuff, so I ended up buying and finding homes for most the stuff.  Check around WI for a reef club near you, www.masna.org is a good place to start looking.  Maybe you can find a person like me who'd help you out, maybe even temporary house them for you until you got better lighting.  My local clubs are very helpful with this kinda of stuff.  I can go post in one of our forums about needing a ride, a frag, etc, and I'll get a response in a 1/2 hour.   www.reefcentral.com houses many clubs forums, you can check there as well.
