ok as far as light output goes you will get more "bang for the buck" from the 6,700k because they will generally produce more par than the higher k. On the other hand most nuisance sp? algae like the 6700k also. Another problem with the 67k is that it is really yellow.

I've got pc lights and T6's on my tank and I like the 11 or 12k bulbs, personally. I have them for my T6's(4x40watt 11k) and my 4 pc's I split into 2-420/460 and the other 2 are 460. Gives me a great range of blues and whites and no yellows

This is starting to be disproved.... Dana Riddle 2008...
20,000K depending on reflector and bulb will do BETTER than 10,000k!!

    Happy lighting!!

you are absolutely correct, but...........it depends on reflector and bulb. I said "generally". For example, if you take a hamilton 10,000k bulb and a hammie 14k bulb. Run them on same ballast and same reflector I can guarantee you the 10 is going to produce more.

Soooo we got a little crazy here, would you recommend the 10,000 over the 67000?

Also would you recommend a different # if i can find it for a good price?

    Thank you.

It really depends on what you want your tank to look like.....the higher the number, the bluer the tank. I like at least 12000K. Makes the coral colors pop. 14000K even more. I would never go 6700K. All things aside, I just flat out don't like the look and believe the livestock likes the higher numbers.

I purchased a stock of 12 PFC lights off ebay and they do not last as long as quality lights. I found that I had to replace each bulb at the 8 month mark, where my Corallife bulbs were lasting 12-14months. You may save $5 off each bulb, but how fast you have to replace them will eat up those savings in a hurry. Personally, I will only buy big name bulbs now, Hamilton, Ushio, etc.

Well my LFS sell the lights for $35-$55 a light. On ebay there are 4 for $40.

I like the 10,000k over the 6700k because of the fact that their is more blue in it. Plus the more light from the red end of the spectrum, the ore microalgae that will potentially be produced! This is a tried and true fact!!!
