    Hello All,
I am deciding whether or not to change my 90 gallon Cichlid into a reef tank. My cichlid tank currently hase the Caribsea Cichlid complete sand in it.
caribsea your aragonite source and more!

It contains the argonite for high PH buffer.

This seemes almost the same as the live sand I have in my FOWLR now. Can I just keep it and use as is ?

    \Cheers

I may be wrong, but I dont think that the benificial bacteria your harboring from your FW tank would transfer over to your SW tank.
Simply for the fact that you want to start a reef tank, I would just use new sand. It would help eliminate a lot of potential problems down the road.

Thanks, I suspected it would dye off with the salt, but would save 80 or so. You are likley right about avoiding issues down the road.

Hard to cut corners in a round room..

I got ready to post to this earlier but figured I'd wait , But I myself would not us what i saw in the photo as I'm not sure what all is in there ? Could be some metals or ore's that would be fine in Freshwater and not in saltwater.. The black will kill any light reflection assuming that black is safe even ? It seems to me once when I was looking at that in a buddies LFS I saw some red flint in the mix ??? But I myself would just get a good marine cover..

Yeah, I am still very new to this (have had tank about 6 months or so) and figured that I would try to save on stuff here and there. I'm paying double to make up for those mistakes now. And as tangster said, there is a lot of stuff in FW that can be devastating to SW. Add on top of that any chemical medicines/treatments/whatnot's that could still be in the substrate only to leach out into the SW, its just not worth the *potential* $80 savings
