I wouldn't do a mandarin unless your tank is at least 1 year old. Min tank size for any tang is 100g, regardless, get the fish that belongs to your tank now instead of the future.

you dont have to wait a year; just start raising pods in a separate tank or in a fuge and make sure to feed it with phytoplankton and u shud be good. But i would wait at least 3 months for you to get the hang of things and start to actually dedicate time into this hobby

Okay, I won't get the red velvet but I am still going with the tang. If he gets too big then I will return him, I don't get attached to fish so it wont be a problem. What about a flasher or leopard wrasse

Would you say a 75g is fine for a kole?

It could probably live there but just to be safe (im a very precautionary S.O.B. (is that even a word?)lol) I'd keep it in 100 or more. But I actually think you could pull it off with a 75.

That just seems strange to me because a 75g is only 3in wider and 3 in taller then my tank, it just doesnt seem like the tang would really appreciate a whopping extra 3in of width and height, no offense it just seems strange.

It does but the gallons is what matters, although I do agree that one just looks a teeny bit bigger I guess

If we are talking about gallons, my tank can handle the bioload so that's why I still want the tang. Before everyone was saying that the tang needed more space but 3inches isnt much space and IMO wont make a difference to the fish.
