I want to get a derasa clam to put in my tank and just want to make sure that it would be compatible. Here are the specs on my tank:

    6 months old 120 G 5 ft. long tank
    2 Koralia 4's
    1 Koralia 3
Eshopps HOB Skimmer (to be upgraded after holidays ;D)
    Phosphate Reactor w/Bellaphos
    2 Blue Lunar Lights
48 in. Current Nova Extreme Pro 6 bulb T5

SPS, LPS, Softies showing excellent growth and polyp extension

    1.025 SG
    0 Nitrate
    0 Nitrite
    8.1 pH
    0 Ammonia
    480 Calcium
2.1 Alk (use Red Sea Test and they use different measurement?!)

    1 Blue Hippo Tang
    1 Two Spot Bristletooth Tang
    2 Misbar Oscellaris
    1 Diamond Goby *
    1 Cleaner Wrasse
    2 Green Chromis
    1 Tuxedo Urchin
    1 Conch
    1 Purple Lobster
    2 Cleaner Shrimp
    2 Peppermint Shrimp
    8 Mexican Turbo snails
handful of hermits & other snails

Would a Derasa be safe in this setup? I really want to add a clam to the mix and see what happens.

I agree, it should do fine in your tank.

    2.1 alk?

    that can't be in dkh.

if your dkh is between 8-13 or so, you will be fine. Clams really don't need that much, beyond enough light and semi decent tank parameters.

No it is not. I am unsure of the measurement, but I think the multiplier is around 2.8. That would bring it to around 6dKh with is low (I think).

If your 2.1 alk is in mEq/L (which I think is likely), it is a little low-ish, especially if you want a clam. You may consider bringing it up somewhat. There are several ways to do this - personally I use carbonate (I use seachem's product) to do this. Others use baking soda.

But otherwise I agree with the above posters - seems like your tank can handle a derasa clam.

Yeah, you should raise the alk to around at least 8 dkh before getting a clam.

There are a lot of products that you can use to achieve this. Some are super cheap, others are a little more expensive than they should be.

If the lobster and the peppermint shrimp are peaceful, then go for it. Also, I don't think cleaner wrasse survive very long in captivity. How is yours?

He is very active and eats anything that goes in the tank...Frozen mysis, frozen brine, flake, Nori. He is showing excellent growth and personality.
