I recently purchased a Yellow Eye Kole Tang for my 100 gallon reef tank and wanted to eventually add two additional tangs to the mix. MY LFS told me that i really should add the other two soon because if you do not add them around the same time then the one will establish the whole tank as their domain. Is this true or are they just trying to sell me more fish? Also my favorite tang that i have seen is the Powder Blue Tang and I want to add this to my tank with the Kole. They are different genus' but i am concerned with their compatibility because the powder blue is listed as moderately aggressive. If they would not work well together please suggest smaller tangs that would be compatible with the kole!

    Comments are appreciated.

Its true with tangs....add them all at once for best results. Also add ones with different body shapes so there is a better chance of no fighting!

The guy at your fish store is about 50/50. No, not one tang is going to establish your whole tank as his but he is right about when the other tangs come in he will be a little mad. I have 5 tangs(scopas, yellow, blue, purple, baby sailfin) in my 70 gallon tank and the yellow and blue were in my tank for about two years and added the rest a few months ago. The yellow was pretty aggressive and the blue could care less. The yellow was chasing them all around the tank and would not let any of them come near his space. You have to let them get use to each other and their surroundings. If i were you i would make plenty of holes for them to come in and out of so they can each "find their ground". All of my tangs have little holes they live in and have set up camp. Feed them plenty of seaweed and that will lower their aggressive ness. I would be happy to answer any other questions about tangs!!!
