Once again, there are viruses out there for Macs already. As they become increasingly popular more writers will start making viruses, trojans, and worms for Macs OSs. Macs aren't worth the amount of money you pay for them unless you do graphic design, photo editing, or video editing. PCs and Macs are designed for two different things. Comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges.

+1 on malware bytes and avast.

Download both apps using a different computer, save the install files to a flash drive. boot up the infected computer in regular safe mode. Install Malware bytes, then run the virus scan. Delete any viruses it finds. Reboot to delete the rest it couldn't delete. Then boot into safe mode with networking. Then install avast and update right away. Perform a full system scan. At the same time update MalwareBytes. Then after avast finishes scanning, scan with malwarebytes once more. Works very well on most viruses. Malware bytes is probably one of the best free tools out there. Don't junk your info yet, try the above. PM me if you have any questions or problems. The best way to prevent crap like this from happening is to ALWAYS make sure your antivirus is up to date and avoid questionable sites. Set your antivirus to automatically update everytime you boot up. Scan your PC at least once a month with malware bytes. Before scanning, update.

A good site adviser tool is "mcafee site advisor." You can install it as an add-on to Firefox and it shows you in your google search results if a site is known to have bad links or viruses etc.

Or like comparing apples to PCs!!!!! HAHA!!

Is it a dell by chance? I am not sure about the other manufacturers but dell stores all the information needed to restore your computer to its like new condition in a separate hard drive partition, which makes it really nice for wiping everything off your comp.

Reinstalling windows is a way of life for my girlfriend's 13 y/o brother. He loads his computer up with viruses, then I reinstall windows and the cycle repeats.
