I am going to have some additions made to my house. During that time, the contractor will have to disconnect the electricity. I may be without electricity for a few months or at least until they can connect a junction box after about 2 months of construction. Can I hook up all of my tanks on a generator. I am thinking that the generator will cause some noise so in order not to bother the neighbors, can I just put on the generator for part of the day and then turn it off at night? The freshwater tanks are not that much of a problem because I can use the battery operated air stones in those tanks. However I have a 55 gallon hex with a sump and two nano cubes. The 55 gallong has some fish, and shrimp but is mostly soft coral. The nano cubes have sandsifting snails chromis, and anemones. Looking forward to your response.

Sounds like a serious hassle. Although, it can be done if need be. Do you have friends or relatives close by that will let you set them up while you are remodeling? Going out of your way to feed or supplement after work or, on your way home from work sounds alot less stressfull than a generator. Lights on, lights off, gas in gen., need gas in gen., sump on, sump off, good current, no current, heater on, heater off, cool neighbor, lame neighbor, protein skimmer on, skimmer off, overflow on, o-flow off. You'll need a prescription for prozac to deal with your tank alone. I build homes for a living. I can build a house in 90-115 days pretty stress free. Remodels are hard to keep on a tight schedule and can be stressfull in itself.

I had one of those whole house generators installed a couple of years ago. You should have seen the installer when I told him how I wanted to break up the breakers to include my reef system.LOL Reef 1-6, 1 fridge, freezer, and furnace.

Everyone around here advised to get a 20-30 gallon. I just bought a 40. I'm thinking this will be big enough b/c when I told a couple people I got a 40 gallon they looked at me a little surprised. shrugs shoulders.

missionsix66: & Dador: lol ! Yea, I've gotten a few weird looks b/c of my details and obsessivness. LOL
