Getting ready to purchase some new tankmates this week for my 72 gallon FOWLR...

I'm eyeing a medium-sized blue hippo tang and a six line wrasse...

Currently I have a yellow tang, 2 clowns, flame angel, yellow head goby and a cleaner shrimp (clean up crew as well)

Does anyone see any conflict of interest with the potential new tank mates? I've read up and they appear non aggressive...

Your thoughts? Things to keep in mind?

    Ryan

I don't see any real problems with your current fish and the hippo tang. My concern is the size, unless you are planning on a larger tank further down the road i would not add a blue hippo...We currently have one in our 72 he has doubled in size in about 5 months. We plan on a larger tank very soon....

    I guess "size does matter"...
I actually didn't think about that one...
    It's an awesome looking fish.

    Thanks

Tangs may tussle for while...but should quickly get used to each other.

Perfect time to add a sixline. Get a juvenile if you can. But would not worry if isn't.

    Enjoy!

Curious as to why you say a juvenile...
is it because they're less fussy...

the tangs may fight since they are the same type of fish. all though ive seen many different tangs coexist together in a aquarium they can still fight since there both tangs. my buddy had a blue hippo it killed five yellow tangs over a 2 year period.

The flame angel may not like the new comers. Was he the last fish you added? Angels tend to think of themselves as king of the tank and may not like new additions. But these are just generalities.

I have had both tangs and a flame angel in the same tank before and never had any problems between them.
I love the hippo tang it is one of if not my favorite fish. They do grow though.
The six line wrase is a big swimmer and will entertain you just watch his movements within the tank.
I think both or very good choices.

You'll be perfectly fine with adding these fish. The only time you really have to worry about adding tangs together is if they are similar body shape and/or color. (i.e. yellow tang would fight with purple tang, naso with vlamenji, etc.) There's always the exception with anything you try, but as long as everyone is the same size you should be fine.

Also, thank you for asking about these fish before you bought them. Its nice to know that you are developing into a responsible fish keeper.

I have really taken to this hobby...
    Daily, weekly and monthly checks...
    Constant reading (3reef.com)... constant questioning...
In the end... it's really helped. My tank is looking great! I'm even about to enter the reef world with my first coral... a zoa or something easy like that...

To answer a previous post... my flame angel was the last fish added along with the cleaner shrimp... I will make sure the blue hippo is the same size as the tang since that seems to be the biggest concern.

Do you think the six line will act like a cleaner as well...
I'm curious because the clown fish never seem to stop by the "drive in" (a spot where the cleaner shrimp hangs out to clean the goby, angel and yellow tang)
