i have been trying to use the red sea alkalinity tester and and i'm supposed to add these orange drops to my water until the water changes to a purple color then i subtract the amount of testing liquid i used to determine my alkalinity. the water never turns to purple it just turns the color of the testing liquid (orange). my ph is 8.2 and my sg is 1.022, temp is around 79, and i have only had the tank running for about 4 days. should i go get another test kit? Also i've planned a trip to get live rock in 2 days and i don't know if i should do that now. any advice would be really helpful. thanks

Drop the liquid slower and mix it longer and you will see the color change.

I switched to a PH probe for just these types of issues with the test kits.

Just let the tank cycle before you get worked up with these things. give it a good month or so.

Salifert makes a nice kit for alk that you can see the color change fairly easy.
I would raise SG slightly temp is good.

I believe you could add the live rock without any issues or you could wait a little longer.
Make sure your tank cycles before adding livestock.
You can tell that by testing nitrites and nitrates.
Good luck with your set up. Keep asking questions.
